Douglas Jerkowicz, 79, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away on Friday August 21,2026. Born in Long Branch, NJ and raised in Keyport, NJ Douglas spent time living in North Brookfield, NY before settling into Little Egg Harbor in 1997. As a young adult, Douglas was a dedicated athlete who served as the Keyport High School football captain. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force as a C-130 loadmaster during the Vietnam War. He spent his career as a union painter for Atlantic City Painters Local 277. Douglas was a member of the Toms River American Legion Post #129, the Tuckerton Red Men, Pohatcong Tribe 61, NJ Mycological Association and the North East Mountain Men Association. He was an avid outdoorsman who held a deep respect for nature and wildlife. Fall was his favorite time of year, especially when hunting season began, and he cherished his time spent outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature. His hobbies included competition black powder rifle shooting, hunting, surf fishing, fly fishing, fly tying, birding, mushrooming and hiking in the woods with his wife Mary. He had a deep love for animals, especially his beloved dogs Dusty, Booger, Daisy and Emily Rose. He also enjoyed feeding the birds and other critters that visited his yard.

Douglas was predeceased by his parents Peter and Marion Jerkowicz, son Douglas Jerkowicz Jr. in 1985, and brother Barry Jay.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Mary Jerkowicz and sister in laws Lynn Harold, Annie Munico and Regina and Marty Connallon.

Visitation will be held on Thursday August 27,2026from 1-3p and again from 6-8p at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Rd, Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08753. Burial will take place on Saturday August 29,2026 at 12p in Boonville Cemetery, Boonville, NY.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Tuckerton Red Men, Pohatcong Tribe 61 at 143 W Main St, Tuckerton, NJ 08087.
