Edward Hillis, 88 of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 19th, 2021 with his loving wife June by his side. Edward was born in Brooklyn, New York where he graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology - Newark College of Engineering, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Ed and his family relocated to New Providence, New Jersey where he was very active in his community, and where he was living at the time of his retirement from Public Service Electric and Gas as an Electrical Engineer. Ed, June, and his Mother-In-Law Jane Sullivan eventually relocated to the shore area of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, to be closer to his son Jim and daughter-in-law, Lee Ann.
Ed had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hiking, canoeing, and cross country skiing. Ed and his wife June spent many vacations at Williams Lake in New York riding their bikes along the trails and exploring the mountains. Ed was an avid reader and loved striking up a conversation about many topics.
Edward was predeceased by his parents William and Dorothy Hillis, and his brother James N. Hillis.
He is survived by his loving wife June of 57 years, his son James E. Hillis (Lee Ann) of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, and his brother Donald Hillis of Texas, as well as many loving relatives and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday October 22nd, 2021 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and on Saturday October 23rd, 2021 from 9:30-10:30am at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Road Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, 08087. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11am at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, 450 Radio Road, Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, 08087. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Theresa’s Church.
