Jack Thomas

Jack Thomas, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the age of 79.

Jack was born and raised in Philadelphia, with his parents, John and Madelyn, and younger sister Carole. He was an athletic youth and loved a variety of sports. Having the toughness, size, and aptitude for it, he eventually gravitated to football where he played offensive and defensive tackle for Father Judge High School. Jack had a large circle of friends growing up, which crossed paths with another large circle of friends of Gloria Borek, who became his high school sweetheart, love of his life, and future wife.

Jack and Gloria married October 3rd, 1964 and they moved to Parkwood Manor. Jack worked a variety of jobs early in their marriage and developed an interest in electronics. He worked while pursuing an electrical engineering degree from La Salle, later landing a position with Hewlett-Packard where he thrived and was employed by until his retirement. Jack and Gloria started a family in 1969 with the arrival of their son, John, and then Michael four years later. Early on, Jack's career advancement frquently moved the family around the country; to Bucks County, Maryland, California, and finally settling back to the Philadelphia suburbs for most of the kid’s upbringing. Jack loved Philly sports, especially the Eagles, and took his sons to many a game. He and Gloria were dedicated to their family, supporting their kids in sports or music, and later their grandkids, Jack, Lydia, and Joe. Jack loved to golf and to fish. After returning from the west coast to the east coast, Jack and Gloria purchased a home in Ocean City, giving him ample time to fish and for her to spend on the beach. Jack and Gloria were a great team who loved to socialize, laugh, and have fun. They put their family first and made it a priority that their family had a good home and memorable experiences.

After retiring from HP, Jack, Gloria, and their dog, Otto, moved to Ocean City, NJ full time. In addition to getting more golfing and fishing in, Jack also served a couple terms as Councilman in Ocean City. Jack and Gloria both enjoyed traveling and tasty food and always ensured they hit the Guy Fieri recommended stops along the way. He and Gloria thrived on these experiences through the years, both just the two of them, and then with their children and grandchildren. Jack and Gloria moved to Little Egg Harbor in 2009. They were active in their Harbor Bay community, and frequently gathered with friends for meals, games, and cards. Jack managed to endure after the passing of Gloria in June of 2022. Written on the back of a picture of Jack given to Gloria in high school was "may all your future dreams come true. I love you." It's safe to say those dreams came true for both of them and they are together again. Jack will be greatly missed. He is predeceased by his parents John and Madelyn, his sister Carole Lamb, and his beloved wife Gloria.

He is survived by his sons John and Michael, and grandchildren Jack, Lydia, and Joe.
