Joseph Albert Giess, 96 of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away on Sunday August 3rd, 2025. Joseph was born in Rahway, NJ and grew up in Rahway and Avenel, NJ. He lived in Edison, NJ with his wife Josephine and two daughters for 28 years. After that, he and his wife retired to Pinehurst, NC for almost 13 years and they returned to NJ to reside in Little Egg Harbor in 2002. Joseph proudly served our nation in the United States Navy and went on to work as an executive for Linden Motor Freight in 1952. He retired from his 38-year career at Linden Motor Freight in 1990 and enjoyed his second career working as a floral designer for AC Moore in Manahawkin, NJ from 2007 until the store closed in 2018. He was a Communicant of St. Theresa’s R.C. Church in Little Egg Harbor, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, birdwatching, he loved his pets and being with his family. He was a big supporter of his grandchildren and enjoyed watching performances at Surflight Theatre. He was skilled at making floral arrangements for churches, weddings and home décor, and he also loved a good glass of cabernet.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Rudolph and Rose Giess, his beloved wife Josephine in 2007, his sister Gizella Meyer and his brother Rudolph Giess.
He is survived by his loving daughters Karen Polefka and her husband Craig of Cream Ridge, NJ and Daria Dooling and husband Michael of Huntington, VT, grandchildren Jordan Polefka, Breanna Dooling, Caitlin Dooling and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday August 11th, 2025 from 6-8pm and on Tuesday August 12th from 9:30-10:30am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Road Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday August 12th, 2025 at 11am at St. Theresa’s Church 450 Radio Road Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin, NJ.
