Josephine Guardino, 86, of the Sunrise Bay Community in Little Egg Harbor, passed away on June 20, 2020 at Spring Village at Galloway Senior Living. She was born in New York City and lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, NY before moving to Little Egg Harbor, NJ 18 years ago.
Josephine was a strong, vibrant woman of many talents and passions. First and foremost, she was deeply devoted to her family and close friends, showering them with love and generosity in all its forms. She was also active in her community, volunteering locally at Southern Ocean County Hospital and the public library in Little Egg Harbor.
She loved traveling not only for the sheer adventure, but for the opportunity to meet new people and experience nature and cultures different from her own. She was intellectually curious and an avid reader, from newspapers and magazines to devouring novels into the wee hours of the morning. Jo appreciated all things beautiful and surrounded herself with paintings, including her own, as well as floral arrangements, cherished collectibles, and photographs of her family.
She enjoyed playing Mah Jongg, and shared her flair for the dramatic with the Sunrise Bay Players community theatre. Not surprisingly, she was Queen Mother for the Sunrise Bay Sparklers chapter of the Red Hat Society.
Jo enjoyed a rewarding career as a skilled dental assistant for over 20 years. She was respected by the dentists she served and loved by their patients for her compassion and ability to put them at ease. She also pursued a career in real estate and served as President of the Women’s Council of the Staten Island Board of Realtors.
Josephine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Louis J. Guardino. She was the loving mother of Donna Guardino (Daniel Schreiner, Cleveland, OH), Loretta Guardino (Leonia, NJ), and Thomas J. Guardino (Cheryl Guardino, Brick, NJ). Beloved Nana of Victoria Louise Daledda, Louis James Guardino, Thomas James Guardino Jr., Maria Guardino Schreiner, and Vincent Michael Guardino. Devoted sister to Nancy Tracey, Arlene DiPadova, James Orefice, the late Judith Tapinis, and Daniel Orefice.
