Kenneth (Ken) Fred Schoene, 82, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday October 15, 2025.
Born and raised in New York City, Ken attended Stuyvesant High School where he ran cross-country. A voracious reader and life-long learner, he received an associate in applied science degree from SUNY Farmingdale, and the Bachelor of Science degree from Farleigh Dickinson University. Ken proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police, stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
In 1968, he married his wife Maryann and eventually moved to High Crest Lake in West Milford, NJ where they raised their daughters before moving to Sea Oaks in Little Egg Harbor, NJ in 2006.
Ken had a distinguished 50+ year career in the chemical industry, rising through the ranks from Product Development Chemist at Lever Brothers, Managing the Specialty Chemicals business at Sandoz, and ultimately as a Global Business Unit Director at BASF, and was granted U.S. patents for inventions. An expert in Ethelene Oxide, Ethelene Oxide Derivatives and Surfactants, Ken continued to consult for the chemical industry. Throughout his career, he was an active member of various industry organizations serving in leadership roles, including The Society of Cosmetic Chemists, AOCS, ILMA, ACI and ACC. Recently, Ken was the most active member of the Racemics Organization where he chaired the Membership and College Scholarship committees.
A lover of all sports, he enjoyed watching, playing and writing about them, most recently penning the sports column in the Sea Oaks Link. Ken was a staunch supporter of girls’ athletics and spent many years proudly coaching town and travel teams for both softball and basketball. He was a loyal New York sports fan rooting for his beloved New York Giants and Mets; however, his most favorite pastime was singing and dancing with his wife.
Ken was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Anna Schoene, and brother Fred Schoene. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Maryann, daughters Kimberly Blaine and husband Joseph of Butler, NJ, and Kerri Tansey and husband Bill of Point Pleasant, NJ, and grandchildren Arianna Blaine and Morgan Blaine. Also surviving are loving nieces, nephews and cherished cousins, friends and colleagues.
Cremation will be private. A funeral mass will be held on Friday October 24, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church in Manasquan, NJ.
