Linda Lou Waldt (née Haines), 82, of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Linda was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Linda was born on May 14, 1943, in Atlantic City, NJ, to the late George and Virginia Haines. She grew up in Pleasantville, NJ, graduated from Pleasantville High School, and went on to attend Secretarial School. She started her family in Delran, NJ, where she welcomed her two daughters, Joni and Jennifer. As a stay-at-home mom, Linda dedicated herself to her children. She served as a Brownie leader, often hosted garage sales, and spent countless hours baking and crafting with her best friend Sally and their children. The two were known for pulling over to collect pinecones, which they later used to create wreaths for Christmastime. After moving to Yardley, PA, Linda and her daughters developed a love of horses. She spent many years riding and caring for her horse, Sugar. Animals were always an important part of her life—she had cats, dogs, and occasionally rabbits and hamsters.
On December 20, 1985, Linda married Dennis “Troy” Waldt, blending their families and welcoming his children, Tim and Kim. Together, Troy and Linda spent many years cruising the Chesapeake Bay on their boat, Take A Chance. When not boating, they enjoyed day trips along the East Coast on their trike. They also shared wonderful times in Sanibel Island, FL, where Linda found her most beautiful shells and pieces of sea glass. Linda loved spending summer days at Bartram Avenue Beach in Atlantic City with her family and cousin, Claire Ann. She enjoyed walking along the shore, collecting shells and sea glass that she later transformed into jewelry, home décor, and many other crafts. A passionate gardener, Linda tended to a lush collection of flowers and plants, with favorites including the Dutchman’s Pipe (Aristolochia macrophylla), Mandevilla (which she called her “Nana Plant”), and her prized Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera), which had been lovingly passed down through three generations. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels and birdwatching—delighting most in the sight of hummingbirds in her garden. Growing up in South Jersey, Linda was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, and she also proudly cheered for her grandchildren at their sporting events.
A devout Christian and granddaughter of a Presbyterian minister, Linda’s faith was central to her life. She attended church regularly and began each morning with a devotional reading. Linda also participated in Women’s Bible Study, and volunteered her time to her church community.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, George and Virginia Haines; her brother, Steven Haines; and her first husband, William Whinna. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dennis “Troy” Waldt; her daughters, Joni (Chris) Burns and Jennifer (Mike) Duffy; her grandchildren, Alexa Burns, Logan Burns, and Makayla Duffy, who lovingly called her “Nana”; her stepchildren, Tim (Jennifer) Waldt and Kim (Chuck) Wilson; and her niece and nephew, Monica Romero and Sebastian Romero. Linda is now at peace and home with God.
