Mary M. Haviland, 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at her home in Manahawkin, NJ. Born Mary Kennedy in Brooklyn, NY, she was the second of six children (Phillip, James, Noreen, Ann, and Kathleen) to Nora and James. Mary moved to Old Bridge, NJ with her husband John to live for most of her life until she retired to Manahawkin. Mary dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren, touching the lives of so many along the way. She always enjoyed spending time with her family, and all will remember her love for all things Irish. She loved cheering on her beloved Mets and Jets. Her indomitable spirit will live on in each of us who were blessed enough to know her. Her family is comforted in knowing that she is joined in heaven by her son Mike Haviland.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, John Haviland, and was a loving mother of seven children and their spouses: Noreen Kurtz and husband Lee, Mary Gordon and husband Francis, James Haviland, Lawrence Haviland, Margie O'Connor and husband Chris, and Danny Haviland and wife Michele. She will be missed by her 17 loving grandchildren: Melissa Jakulevicius and husband Robert, Noreen DeSarno and husband Peter, Moira Gordon, Kathleen Mahoney and husband Kevin, Alison McMahon and husband Eric, Sheila Gordon and fiancé Todd MacLennan, John Haviland, Ryan Haviland, Brianne O'Connor, Daniel Haviland, Carly Haviland, Zachary O'Connor, Michael Haviland, Collin O'Connor, Jane Haviland, Jack Haviland, and Molly Haviland. Her great-grandchildren, Anthony DeSarno, Mason Jakulevicius, Benjamin DeSarno, Ella McMahon, Luke and Collin Mahoney, Miles Jakulevicius, Bryce MacLennan, and Nicholas DeSarno will keep Mary's memory with them always.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm at Maxwell Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ, 08050. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2015, 10am, at St. Mary of the Pines, 100 Bishop Way, Manahawkin, NJ. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, 283 Beachview Ave., Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Lunch will follow the funeral at Ship Bottom Firehouse, 2006 North Central Avenue, Ship Bottom, NJ.
