To his family and friends, Patrick “Pat” Hoffman will be remembered for his unwavering ability to always find joy and humor in life. Always one to find a silver lining, Pat was not deterred by his Alzheimer’s diagnosis three years ago and continued to smile and enjoy life until his passing on January 4, 2022.
Pat was born on September 10, 1950, in Sunbury, Pennsylvania to Harry Hoffman and Stella Kalcich Hoffman (99). He grew up in Edison, NJ where he and his friends would often take his Bug-Eyed Sprite into New York City for week-end fun. His enthusiasm for football and attending Penn State University football games with his children and grandson was unrivalled. His grandson, Ian, was the love of his life and he enjoyed watching him play soccer and baseball.
Pat was known for his ability to fix anything, so after completing his associate degree in accounting from Rutgers University he pursued carpentry. From there, he managed his own business as a locksmith. He loved his work and would have continued serving his community of Mechanicsburg, PA until the end if possible. He also built and remodeled many homes over the years.
Pat is survived by his loving wife Gloria “Jean” Zerbe of almost 50 years, his two sons, Ryan, (wife, Patarin) and Douglas, his daughter Caitlin, his grandson Ian, his granddaughter Brooklyn, his mother Stella, his sister Ann, and his brother Joe, ( wife, Carol). Pat was preceded in death by his father Harry C Hoffman and his brothers Steve and Mark Hoffman. As Pat was an avid lover of nature his ashes will be scattered by his family homestead along the Susquehanna River in Fishers Ferry, PA during a Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers and in Patrick’s honor, please make contributions to the University of Pennsylvania Memory Center, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
