Theresa “Terry” Yurgel (nee Carr) 66, of Tuckerton, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with an extended illness.
Terry, affectionately known as “Tea” to family and friends, was born in Westwood, NJ and resided in Lodi, Bergen County, before settling in Mystic Islands, Ocean County, with her former spouse, Brian Yurgel, in the early 1980s. She then lived in Mays Landing, Atlantic County, for several years, before eventually moving to the Tuckerton area in 2020.
Her early work experience included administrative work at Seacrest Village Nursing Home, although a majority of her working years were spent as a school bus driver for Sheppard Bus Service in Ocean and Atlantic Counties prior to retiring. She enjoyed assisting and getting to know her passengers with special needs on her regular bus routes.
She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Mary “Terry” Carr, residents of Mystic Islands until 1996, when they retired to Barefoot Bay, Florida.
Terry is survived by her loving children: son Bill Yurgel, wife Maria, and their daughters Rosie and Emma of Little Egg Harbor, NJ; daughter Alyssa Dodi and husband Beau; and son Dan McTigue of Philadelphia, PA. Also survived by her sisters: Kathy Amato (Jim) and Colleen Arrowsmith (Ian) all of Baltimore, MD; and her brother Kevin Carr (Sandy) of Boone, NC. Also survived by nephews: Drew, Jude and Ryan; and niece Samantha.
Terry developed her love of Jersey shore life and waterfront living in her early years in Mystic Islands (now Little Egg Harbor), where her parents were original owners of a summer home in the mid-1960s. Some of her fondest childhood memories were of summer days spent at the Mystic “Playhouse”; a hub of social activity and the site of a community pool and marina, where she swam and spent time with friends.
In addition to swimming, other activities such as boating, fishing, attending clam bakes and frequenting Long Beach Island were some of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed anything on or near the water, nature, gardening, animals, and scenic drives. Terry also enjoyed crafts, including making decorative pillows and home décor, such as Christmas decorations.
Terry’s children were her pride and joy, and she will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 3 – 6 pm at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Road, Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087.
Burial will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Calvary Cemetery, 2398 Route 70 West, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002, which is also the final resting place of Terry’s maternal grandparents.
