Dr. Virginia Gittelman, 77, of Barnegat, NJ passed away on September 9th, 2022. Born in Trenton, NJ, Virginia spent time in South Brunswick, NJ and Princeton Junction, NJ before settling down in Barnegat, NJ where she resided for the last 17 years. Virginia spent 25 years working for the Hamilton Township School District in Mercer County, NJ where she started as a French and Spanish teacher, eventually moving into the Director of Elementary Education. After this, Virginia worked for the Hillsborough School District in Somerset County, NJ where she was the Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Virginia earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Douglas College in New Brunswick, NJ her Master’s Degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, and her Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. She was a lifetime member of the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association. After retirement, Virginia enjoyed working as an adjunct professor mentoring students, traveling, and reading. She also co-authored 6 books, Yoga Techniques to Help Quit Smoking, Yoga For All Americans, Yoga For Dads, Yoga For Moms, Yoga For Beginners and Yoga For Teachers.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents Thomas Newell Dickson and Bette Chintala Dickson, her brother Thomas “Sonny” Dickson, and her sister-in-law Beverly Nimetz.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Marvin Gittelman, her daughter Dara Lynn Gittelman of Barnegat, NJ, many nieces. Nephews, cousins, brother-in-law Stanley Nimetz, and her grand-dogs Paddington and Sanka.
