Mary E Cotter

Mary E. (Hogan) Cotter  1929—2020.  Born in Bronx, New York to J. Gerard Hogan and Ann (Reid) Hogan.  She attended Cathedral High School and later began a career with the FBI.  Mary met and eventually married FBI Agent John J. Cotter in 1952.  She had to leave her beloved New York City and family to be stationed all over the country but spent much of her time raising her five children in Waldwick, New Jersey, which she later called “home”.  Mary served Waldwick as a crossing guard for over 20 years, loved by the local children and never too busy to hear them.  She later moved in retirement to Manahawkin, NJ, leaving behind many friends.

Mary was a devout Catholic and devoted to the Blessed Mother.  She was a strong and kind loving mother and friend.  She will be missed.

Mary is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sister Nancy (Hogan) Reardon, her brother J. Gerard Hogan. 

She is survived by her brother John Hogan of Virginia, her five children John P. Cotter of Manahawkin; Colleen (Cotter) DeStefano and her husband Joseph of Oak Ridge, Brian D. Cotter and his wife Donna (Ragno) Cotter of Leland, NC; Daniel E. Cotter and his wife Deborah (Howley) Cotter and Nicholas F. Cotter and his wife Wendy (Bishop) Cotter of West Creek, NJ as well as eight grandchildren John DeStefano, Caitlin Cotter Erickson, Alyssa, Melissa, Nicholas, Molly, Emma and Kate Cotter along with many nieces and cousins.

Memorial services to be held 9:00 – 10:30 am, Monday January 4th, 2021 at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Rd Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087, with Christian Burial to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes, NJ

Please note, due to COVID-19 the funeral home is operating at limited capacity as per NJ executive order. Staff will be there to assist. All visitors must wear a face mask inside the funeral home at all times.
