Richard R Lawrence

Richard R. "Dick" Lawrence, 81 of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away at home on Tuesday October 26, 2021. Dick was born in Phillipsburg, NJ to Robert and Edna Lawrence, graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1958 and went on to attend Rutgers University and Trenton State College earning his Masters Degree. Dick retired from Pinelands Regional School District in Little Egg Harbor in 1997 after serving as Athletic Director for 3 years and Supervisor of Health and Physical Education for 12 years. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Little Egg Harbor and he greatly enjoyed coaching both high school and college football and track including Rutgers Freshman Football (1963), New Brunswick High School Football (1964-66) & Basketball (1963-67), Governor Livingston High School Football (1968 & 1969) & Track (1969 & 1970) and Millville High School Football (1971) & Track (1971 & 1972).

In his earlier years he was a proud member of the 1957-58 Phillipsburg High School Basketball team which compiled a 17-3 record and defeated Easton (PA) High School for the first time in 13 years. He was the Co-Captain of the 1958 Rutgers University Freshman football team and a 3-year Rutgers Varsity Football letterwinner. Dick was a member of the 1st undefeated and untied Rutgers University Football team in 1961, a member of the Rutgers University Athletic Hall of Fame and a Co-Founder of the Stafford Twp. (Manahawkin, NJ) Recreational Basketball League.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Robert and Edna (nee Geisner) Lawrence, sister Barbara Lawrence Weidner and brother Bruce Lawrence, whose remains were repatriated in 2011 after 43 years of Missing In Action in Vietnam.

He is survived by his loving wife Karen (nee Johnson) Lawrence of 59 years, children Kimberly Miller (Jeffrey) of Clifton, NJ, Pamela Mason (Michael) of Barnegat, NJ and Todd Lawrence (Patricia) of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, grandchildren Zachary Mason, Colleen Mason, Joshua Miller, Aaron Miller, Bailey Lawrence, Thomas Logue Jr. and Krista Logue, niece Karen Crosson and nephews Bruce, Robert, Kevin and Brian Weidner.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 2, 2021 from 5-8pm at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd Little Egg Harbor NJ 08087. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday November 3, 2021 at 11am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 500 Mathistown Rd Little Egg Harbor NJ 08087.
